Built for both iPhone and Android devices, this free GPS-enabled application allows you to experience that battle of Pointe du Hoc. map libraries largely focused on cataloging and promoting. Today the German World War II maps form important legacy collections in many American map libraries, including the UC Berkeley Library map collection. In December 2012, ABMC released its first smartphone application for touring Pointe du Hoc. Army Map Service started to deposit these German maps in U.S. Pershing, the first chairman of ABMC made a promise to those families who lost loved ones overseas during World War I that “Time will not dim the glory of their deeds.” The new World War II timeline and map represents the continued efforts of ABMC to meet that promise. “This in turn allows you to understand the sacrifice of all those who served the allied cause in World War II.” “What is especially significant about these interactive maps is they allow the user to place an individual memorialized at one of our sites such as Normandy American Cemetery within the context of the war,” said Tim Nosal, ABMC Director of Public Affairs. The interactive timeline also connects with the visual histories of the Normandy Campaign and the Battle of Pointe du Hoc, already available on ABMC’s website.
